Governor Mutuma Flags Off Ksh 28.9M Medical Supplies, Proposes Ksh 300M Healthcare Budget.
H.E. Governor Hon. Rev. Mutuma M'Ethingia, flagged off the third consignment of medical supplies worth Ksh 28.9 million since assuming office. To sustain and scale up these efforts, he has proposed a healthcare budget increase of Ksh 300 million in the current financial year, an increment of Ksh 95 million from the previous year. He encouraged all Meru residents to register under the Social Health Authority (SHA) scheme, noting that as the county battles the rising threat of cancer, SHA coverage is a vital step in reducing the financial burden of treatment.The county’s registration under the scheme stands at 33%, with steady progress being made. The administration is also prioritizing the welfare of healthcare workers through budget allocations for promotions, a reflection of its commitment to a well- supported and motivated workforce. The Governor further highlighted the ongoing efforts to strengthen health infrastructure across the county. These include upgrading dispensaries and expanding cancer screening programs as part of a focused and strategic response to the growing cancer burden. Meru County recently received recognition from KEMSA for Excellence in Health Commodities Management in the Central and Upper Eastern Region, an acknowledgment of the county’s dedication to efficient and effective healthcare delivery. He expressed appreciation for the continued partnership with KEMSA and MEDS, whose support remains instrumental in enhancing the county's healthcare system.
