H.E GOVERNOR REV. MUTUMA M'ETHINGIA HOSTS H.E PRESIDENT WILLIAM SAMOI RUTO DURING THE 10TH ANNUAL DAIRY FARMERS FIELD DAY.
It was a great honour for Meru county governor H.E Rev. Mutuma M'Ethingia to host the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, during the 10th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day held at the Meru ASK Showground. Meru County remains a national leader in milk production, a testament to the unwavering dedication of our farmers and the strength of our agricultural ecosystem.
Under the leadership of H.E. the President, dairy farmers have seen their earnings rise from Ksh. 35 to over Ksh. 50 per litre. The sector's overall value has grown impressively, from Ksh. 40 billion to Ksh. 59 billion. To build on this development, and further support the dairy industry, key government interventions are being implemented. These include:
1. Reducing the cost of sexed semen to Ksh. 1,000 to boost breeding efficiency,
2. Launching a nationwide livestock vaccination campaign,
3. Exempting yellow maize from taxation to lower animal feed costs, and
4. Expanding access to milk coolers to reduce post-harvest losses and preserve milk quality.
The Meru Dairy Co-operative Union proudly serves over 1.2 million consumers daily with high-quality, nutritious dairy products. This success is underpinned by a robust network of over 100,000 partners including suppliers, transporters, service providers, and distributors, who work collaboratively to uphold the farm-to-table value chain.
The event was attended by Deputy President H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretaries led by Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSMEs), Hon. Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku (Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes), and Eng. Eric Muriithi Mugaa (Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation). Also present were Members of Parliament led by Hon. Rahim Dawood (Imenti North), Members of the County Assembly, Meru Dairy Co-operative Union CEO Mr. Kenneth Gitonga, and other key stakeholders from across the country.
