H.E. Deputy Governor Linda Gakii Flags Off 14.5M Worth Of Essential Drugs To Boost Healthcare Services Across Meru County

On behalf of H.E. Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia, H.E. Hon. Lindah Kiome Gitonga the Deputy Governor flagged off essential medical supplies valued at Ksh 14,570,522, procured through KEMSA, as part of a major initiative to strengthen healthcare service delivery across Meru County. This critical intervention reaffirms the County Government's unwavering commitment to ensuring that no patient is turned away from public health facilities due to drug shortages.

The consignment will be distributed to key health institutions throughout the county. Major allocations include Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital with Ksh 2,702,255, Nyambene District Hospital with Ksh 2,388,410, Kanyakine District Hospital with Ksh 2,244,400, Githongo District Hospital with Ksh 1,385,477, Kangeta Sub-County Hospital with Ksh 1,031,330, Mutuati Sub-District Hospital with Ksh 1,042,970, Kibirichia Sub-District Hospital with Ksh 1,116,710, Miathene District Hospital with Ksh 1,075,598, Muthara Sub-District Hospital with Ksh 879,870, and Mikinduri Sub-District Hospital with Ksh 703,502.

Hon. Lindah Kiome Gitonga underscored that this is only the first phase of distribution, with further consignments scheduled for dispensaries, health centres, and community units to ensure equitable access to essential healthcare services at all levels.

In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA), which provides financial protection to residents while accessing healthcare. She urged all eligible citizens to enroll and benefit from this transformative initiative.

The flag-off event was graced by key county officials including CECM for Legal Affairs, Public Service Management & Administration and Acting County Secretary Adv. Marius Maranya, CECM for Health Services Dr. Dennis Mugambi, Chief Officer for Health Services Dr. Joseph Wahome, and CEO of Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital Dr. Bernard Murithi.
