Governor Mutuma M'Ethingia Convened A High Level Consultative Meeting With The County Leadership, The CEO Of The Council Of Governors, And The Presidential Economic Adviser
A high-level consultative meeting was held between the leadership of Meru County led by H.E Governor Rev. Mutuma M'Ethingia ,the CEO of the Council of Governors (COG), and Hon. Moses Kuria, the Economic Advisor to H.E. the President of the Republic of Kenya. The primary focus of the engagement was to explore strategic market opportunities for Meru County’s key agricultural value chains. These include coffee, tea, miraa (khat), avocado, macadamia, bananas, potatoes, and milk.
During the meeting, it was announced that Meru County will become the first county in Kenya to commission a County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP). This flagship project will be supported by several smaller aggregation and collection centers distributed across the county, each tailored to specific agricultural value chains.
In collaboration with aggregators and investors joining the initiative, the county is establishing a system that ensures farmers receive instant payments upon delivery of their produce. This represents a significant shift away from the long-standing exploitation by middlemen and cartels, offering a more equitable model for Meru’s farmers.
Once produce is sorted and graded at Level 1 and 2, it will be stored at the CAIP, as the county strengthens its market linkages both locally and internationally. This approach aims to shield farmers from price instability and exploitation, while also promoting value addition and ensuring high quality standards for Meru-grown products.
Meru County stands at a turning point. Through bold and visionary steps such as these, the county is transforming its agricultural potential into real wealth, dignity, and prosperity for every farmer.
