Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza Commissions Kibirichia Potato Cooperative Aggregation Centre To Boost Farmers' Income And Promote Sustainability

H.E. Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza commissioned the ultramodern Kibirichia Potato Cooperative Society Aggregation Centre which was constructed at a cost of Ksh46,677,500 courtesy of our partnership with National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP). Currently, the society has 1,479 members who are drawn from Kibirichia, Timau, and Kisima wards.

The aggregation centre has a capacity to store over 1,000 tons of irish potatoes for a period of three months, thereby helping to eliminate middlemen, reduce post harvest losses, create employment opportunities, promote value addition, and increase income generation for potato farmers.

The current production level stands at 147,990 (50 kg) bags per year. Income realized from aggregation is projected to rise to Ksh443,970,000, up from the current Ksh221,985,000. Additionally, we provided tree seedlings to farmers in an effort to promote environmental conservation
