Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza Launches Distribution Of 24,000 Avocado Seedlings To Boost Meru's Agricultural Value Chain

H.E. Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza has launched the distribution of over 24,000 avocado seedlings in Kibirichia, Akachiu, Kiirua Naari, and Kigucwa wards as part of a concerted effort to strengthen the avocado value chain. In Meru County, avocados are the second highest fruit value chain in terms of production and economic contribution. An estimated 41,746 small scale farmers across the county are actively involved in avocado farming. In 2023, approximately 38,126 metric tons of avocados that are valued at Ksh876 million were produced from around 2,486 hectares. Governor Mwangaza's administration is committed to promoting the growth of agricultural production and value addition in Meru County.
