After Governor Kawira Mwangazas visit to Lewa Conservancy, she officiated the commissioning of Mitunguu Decentralized Treatment Facility Project at Mitunguu ward in Imenti South costing Sh.17 million.

This innovative sewage treatment project in collaboration with Water Trust Fund, will be a major milestone in waste management solutions through recycling of the waste water as well as avoiding river pollution.

The treatment facility will also produce manure as fertilizers and in turn promote organic farming. The Governor was impressed that the project is so modernized such that there is no stench that will emanate from the site, therefore gaining acceptance by the community.

The project has a new exhauster that will transport sewage sludge from homes as well as surrounding markets and towns. Governor Kawira however called for transparency and accountability in the project implementation through an elaborate public participation mechanism to ensure that neighboring communities benefit from the initiative.
