Kiraitu Calls For Political Tolerance, Says No Voter Will Be Forced To Vote Leaders They Dont Like Since The Ballot Is Secret.

The Governor of Meru County H.E. Kiraitu Murungi has called on the County residents to consider advantages of being in government and the disadvantages of being in opposition as they make choices regarding national politics.

Speaking today at Kibirichia in Buuri, during the memorial service of the late parents-in-law to DCI George Kinoti, late John M’Ringera Mwirichia and late Julia Karamburi, Governor Kiraitu called for political tolerance, peace and sanity, noting that nobody will be forced to vote for any candidate that they don’t want, since the ballot will be secret and every voter will make the decision alone. As such, he called for cessation of incitement and other political malpractices being disguised as excuses for resentment against candidates they don’t like who are allegedly being forced on them at the national level.

The Governor also noted that it is unfortunate, people have concentrated on the presidential election too much and forgot to consider and discuss more vigorously on the election of leaders who are closest to them such as the MCA and Governor.

"I would like to see our people discussing more on the leadership here at the grassroots which matters more, other than being engrossed on the election at the national level where leaders elected will have minimal touch with the mwananchi," he added.

The Governor also condemned political incitement and violence especially in places of worship, while referencing a church incident that occurred yesterday, where the spouse to the former Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga, Mama Ida Odinga was booed, and incidents of physical assaults and other forms of violence reported.

Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu who was also in attendance, echoed the Governor’s sentiments, noting that Meru people are losing their admirable culture of political sanity and calm, by being incited to turn to politics of hooliganism and public disrespect. The DG called on the people to stay away from political events for those they don’t like, but await patiently so they can come out and vote candidates of their choice.

The event was also attended by other leaders including CS Prof. Margaret Kobia, MPs Hon. Maoka Maore, Hon. Abdul Rahim Dawood, Mpuru Aburi, County Government Ministers Carol Kagwiria Mutiga, Liner Nkirote Kailanya and Dr. Eunice Nkirote Kobia as well as other top County and National Government leaders.
