The County Secretary, Bishop Dr. Kiambi James Thambura Atheru, PhD.
Bishop Dr. Kiambi James Thambura Atheru, PhD., is an
accomplished highly experienced professional and a career civil servant. He is
currently the County Secretary and Head of Public Service of the County
government of Meru. He hails from Tigania West Sub-county. Dr. Kiambi Atheru is
also an ordained practicing Bishop. He has a strong academic background: he
holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Religious Studies, specializing in
Religion and Development, from Kenya Methodist University. Additionally, he has
a Masters Degree in Governance & Ethics (MGE), which is a highly
administrative and governance degree, from Mount Kenya University. Dr. Kiambi
Atheru also holds a Bachelors Degree in Development Studies (BDS) from the
same University, which means he has capacity to supervise all county
departments effectively. Further, he holds a Diploma in Water Engineering from
the Kenya Water Institute, and has been awarded several certifications across
many areas of his expertise, such as National Cohesion and advanced leadership
(USA). His wealth of experience and expertise as can be seen below, makes him a
valuable asset in the Meru County government as the County Secretary and Head
of County Public Service:
Dr. Kiambi Atheru's remarkable professional career in civil
service spans 26 years, during which he has held notable positions in diverse
organizations both within and outside Meru County. He has made significant
contributions to water engineering in the national government, working in
various districts of Kenya, as district water officer. He has also collaborated
and worked with internationally renowned agencies such as Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
Currently his primary roles entails the following, to:
coordinate all county departments in implementing the manifesto of H.E the
Governor, Bishop Kawira Mwangaza. The manifesto includes effective service
delivery to the residents of Meru County, proper economic planning, effective
management of Meru's natural resources, early learning, science and technology,
effective physical planning in both urban and rural areas, infrastructure
development, food security, investment promotion, social security, and
transformation of medical and public health services. He is also Secretary to
the County Executive Committee whose Chairperson is H.E the governor.
With Dr. Kiambi Atheru's guidance and expertise, the
administration of H.E Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza is well-positioned to
achieve its manifesto for sustainable development of the people of Meru County.
