Kiraitu Tours Tigania West

On Wednesday afternoon, Governor Kiraitu toured Kianjai and Akithi wards in Tigania West Sub-County to access damages caused by the ongoing rains. The torrential rains being experienced in the country have left in their wake a trail of destruction, with about sixty families being displaced in Akithii Ward as a result of flooding. A section of the main highway at Ngundune has also been rendered almost impassable by flood waters, with classes at Limbine Primary School also flooded. The main market at Kianjai has also been hard-hit, with market stalls flooded from the rain water affecting vendors' economic activities. ''We have deployed a bulldozer to Ngundune to clear the section of the road blocked by mud. Further, a contractor will be deployed to the site next week and will not leave till a permanent solution is achieved,'' Kiraitu said. ''To the displaced families, my administration has delivered 2.5tonnes of foodstuff and water treatment chemicals to shield them from hunger and water-borne diseases'' he added' The Governor reiterated his commitment to plant trees in hilly surroundings in the county and constructing gabions by utilizing the Meru Youth Service (MYS) to avoid similar predicaments in the future.
