Governor Peter Munya on Wednesday called on striking health workers to return to their jobs by Thursday morning or face replacements.

The Governor said the workers union had not served the Meru County Government with a strike notice either verbal or written thus making the strike illegal. The workers went on strike demanding the return to the national government through a centralized commission to handle the human resource aspect.

‘’ It is ridiculous to demand the counties to manage the facilities minus the human resource personnel ‘’ he said. How do you ensure the workers perform their duties at the county level if they have a different employer he wondered?

Munya noted the county had promoted a total 89 workers since May after receiving the files from Afya House. 32 doctors, 24 pharmacists, nine nurses and eight public health officers are among those promoted by the county government.

Munya told the journalists promotions are done by the county public service board as per the human resource regulations, and the process is ongoing.

Munya assured the public that the health sector is fully devolved though the enemies of the Constitution are engaging in fruitless efforts to have function reverted to the national government.'

Counties have made tremendous efforts in all the aspects of the healthcare sector in the last two years he noted
