Meru Hosts Maiden Rugby Sevens
Kenya’s top Rugby teams battled it out during the Meru Rugby Sevens held at Kinoru Stadium, Meru County over the weekend.
The Meru Rugby Sevens was the first of its kind events in Meru County. The event was supported by the County Government of Meru led by Governor Peter Munya who has expressed his support for talent growth and sporting activities.
The event came to life on the heels of launching the Meru Rugby Club that has been nurturing talents for young rugby players in the County.
Governor Munya said that the Government of Meru County is geared to become the home of sports in the country.
Meru became the latest entrant into hosting big sporting activities including the Kenya Premier League, playing home to Tusker FC.
Kinoru stadium has been refurbished and the playing surface stands and a perimeter wire fence securing the pitch from spectators put in place.
Residents of the county are upbeat about the future of welcoming other Kenyans to their home regularly.
Sixteen professional team including Kenya Harlequins, Mwamba FC and Kisumu Rugby FC descended on the Kinoru turf to display their might.
