Meru County Govt Committed To Better Healtcare
In a move to improve healthcare in Meru County, the County Government of Meru led by its Governor Hon. Peter Munya toured the Tigania West Sub-County health facilities on Monday, May 19th, 2014. During this tour, the Governor officially handed-over two ambulances procured for Miathene Hospital and Mwerokanga Health Centre. The two ambulances were procured at a cost of Ksh 10 million. The ambulances are meant to ease patients’ referrals in the larger Tigania West Sub-County. The County government is committed to improving access of health services in Tigania West Sub County by constructing and equipping hospitals, health centres, and dispensaries. So far, the Tigania West Sub-County has 2 level four hospitals, 4 health centres and 15 dispensaries. The Thinyaine dispensary has been completed and was officially opened on the same day. Governor Peter Munya said that more health facilities are being planned for to ensure no resident walks more than five kilometres to access health services. "This year alone, the County government has procured and supplied drugs and non- pharmaceuticals to health facilities in Tigania West Sub county worth Ksh. 10,196,312," he said. Other ongoing projects include procurement of Biochemistry analyser machine Miathene hospital at estimated Cost of Ksh. 1.2 Million, procurement of Ultra Sound machine Miathene hospital at estimated Cost of Ksh. 1.5 Million, operationalisation of theatre at Miathene hospital. The Construction of an Incinerator at Miathene Hospital at estimated Cost of Ksh. 450,000 is also ongoing, the completion of and opening Machegene dispensary, the procurement of ten beds each for Mutionjuri and Kunene health centres at a cost of Ksh 700,000. Renovations of Kunene health centre at estimated Cost of Ksh 1.5 Million is ongoing as well as the expansion of Kimachia Dispensary at an estimated cost of Ksh. 2million.
