Hope, Health And Resilience: Governor Mutuma MEthingia Commissions Ultramodern Maternity Wing At Ngarendare Dispensary.

H.E. Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia has presided over the commissioning of a fully equipped ultramodern maternity wing at Ngarendare Dispensary in Kisima ward, Buuri West sub-county. The new wing features a comprehensive range of units including an NBU, a postnatal ward, an antenatal ward, and a fully equipped newborn unit. All sections are fitted with state of the art medical equipment designed to improve maternal outcomes, enhance newborn care, and ensure safe deliveries.
‎In line with the county government’s commitment to improving healthcare service delivery, the facility’s pharmacy is fully stocked with essential medicines and non-pharmaceutical supplies due to sustained efforts to ensure regular restocking of public pharmacies across the county. Additional healthcare personnel will be deployed to Ngarendare Dispensary to strengthen human resource capacity and further enhance service delivery.
‎These interventions are part of preparations towards the planned elevation of Ngarendare Dispensary from a level two to a level three health facility. This will bring quality and affordable healthcare services closer to the people, and reduce referrals in line with the Governor’s health agenda.
‎Beyond healthcare, the County Government of Meru reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and livelihoods by working closely with relevant security agencies and stakeholders to permanently curb cattle rustling. These collaborative efforts are aimed at protecting community resources and preventing needless loss of life.
‎The county leadership also highlighted the growing impact of climate change on food security. Once known as Kenya’s food basket, Meru county has been significantly affected by prolonged climatic changes with nearly 70 percent of its land now qualifying for classification as Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL). In light of this, the Governor has appealed to the national government to consider Meru among the beneficiaries of relief aid to support communities facing food shortages.
‎Meanwhile, the county government continues to implement nutrition interventions including the provision of fortified porridge in all Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres to improve child nutrition and enhance pupil retention.
