Governor Mutuma Reaffirms Commitment To Protect Miraa Farmers From Cartels.
H.E. Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia has reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to protecting communities from the exploitation of resources that rightfully belong to them, particularly the miraa crop, which has for decades suffered injustice through invasion and manipulation by cartels.
This morning, the Governor met with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to deliberate on this critical issue and jointly explore effective strategies to safeguard the miraa industry and the livelihoods that depend on it.
Governor Mutuma emphasized that his administration remains fully committed to ensuring the security of the people of Meru and the optimal use of their land and property. The meeting resolved to review the proposed Miraa Bill and introduce necessary amendments to strengthen protections, seal loopholes, and ensure the legislation truly serves the interests of local communities.
The Governor underscored that the objective is to establish a robust framework that preserves ownership, promotes fairness, and delivers tangible benefits to the people of Meru-because it can, and must, be better.
