THE GOVERNOR OF MERU COUNTY H.E. REV. ISAAC MUTUMA M'ETHINGIA COMMITS TO ADDRESSING SECURITY CONCERNS ALONG THE NORTHERN GRAZING ZONES.
Meru Governor H.E Hon.Rev. Mutuma M'Ethingia has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing security concerns across the Northern Grazing Zones during a meeting with stakeholders from the World Bank. These concerns were highlighted during the assessment of the ongoing construction under the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP).
The HoAGDP spans a 740-kilometre corridor from Isiolo to Mandera, with a vital loop connecting to the Lamu Port. In Meru County, the road passes through Tigania East, Igembe Central, and Igembe North, covering over 70 kilometres. More than just a transport link, the project includes components aimed at community development such as drilling boreholes, upgrading health centres, building modern and livestock markets, and enhancing educational facilities including ECDE classrooms.
During the stakeholder session, several implementation challenges were constructively addressed, including land acquisition, encroachment on road reserves, and compensation for affected persons. Stakeholder engagement was recognized as critical to managing community expectations. It was also noted that the fibre optic cable along the corridor should connect all social projects for broader benefit. A unified approach is essential to resolve the raised issues and ensure the success of this vital project.
