The Official Launch Of Kiraitu Murungi Manifesto 2022

(1) Kiraitu has established the first ever Ward Development Fund and allocated Kshs. 70 million for development to each of the 45 wards of Meru in the last 5 years.

(2) Kiraitu has created Meru Economic and Social Council (MESC), comprising the most distinguished academicians, professionals and entrepreneurs of Meru, which has developed MERU VISION 2040, a visionary blueprint which will guide the development of Meru for the next 20 years.

(3) Kiraitu has established the Meru Youth Service (MYS) to fight against unemployment, poverty, apathy and hopelessness among the youth, and has trained more than 2,000 youths in our polytechnics, including 160 street children who have now been recruited as painters to paint government buildings. He has also supported bodaboda saccos with a Kshs. 17million revolving fund.


(4) Kiraitu has created the Meru Twaweza Women Program for financial and social empowerment, as well as enhancing political visibility of the women of Meru. Twaweza has given seed capital and trained over 5,000 women in all the 45 wards of Meru.

(5) Kiraitu has created a PWD Board led by PWDs, given Kshs. 15 million to PWD Sacco, distributed 150-wheel chairs, and 150 white canes. He has given comprehensive NHIF cover to 355 elderly persons.

(6) For the first time in the history of Meru, Kiraitu has established a Renal Unit, an Intensive Care Unit, and a Cancer Centre at Meru Level 5 Hospital.

(7) Kiraitu has facilitated construction of a modern 250 bed ward block to ease congestion in Meru Level 5 Hospital, opened 49 new dispensaries and facilitated establishment of 4 new Kenya Medical Training Centers (KMTCs) at Maua, Kanyakine, Miathene and Kangeta.

(8) On agriculture, Kiraitu has invested over Kshs. 535 million to support potato, macadamia, avocado, and banana value chains, established an Ethiopian model Coffee Cherry Fund, organized the first ever National Miraa Scientific Conference, and supported Miraa farmers to seek new markets in Djibouti and DRC Congo, supported indigenous chicken project with support from the Government of South Korea, supported livestock farmers to deal with issues of insecurity and invasion by camels, and has built modern markets, an ultra-modern Farmers Training Centre at Kaguru.

(9) Kiraitu has drilled and equipped 240 solar powered boreholes in the semi-arid areas of Buuri, Tigania, and Igembe, and supported 1200 water projects with intakes, water pipes and tanks mainly in the Imenti region.

(10) Kiraitu has constructed, opened and maintained roads in all the 45 wards. He has modernized Meru Town, created two municipalities in Maua and Timau, paved 43 markets with cabro, and installed high mast floodlights to provide lighting in most of our markets.

(11) To promote tourism, Kiraitu has opened up a 22-kilometer road to Lake Ellis, introduced an international Mount Kenya Mountain Running Championship, created a Black Rhino and Mountain Bongo Sanctuary, is developing Lake Nkunga and Igombe Crater eco-tourism sites, and is working with KWS to open Meru National Park for eco-tourism lodges.

(12) On education, Kiraitu has disbursed Kshs. 562 million as bursaries to needy children in all the 45 wards, constructed 290 ECDE classrooms, and 40 VTC workshops, and introduced a scheme of service for ECDE teachers.

(13) Because of his friendship with the National Government, Kiraitu has facilitated processing of 340,000 title deeds in Tigania and Igembe, delivered an ultra-modern Kinoru Stadium at a cost of Kshs.1 billion, a modern Njuri Ncheke Cultural Centre at Nchiru at a cost of Kshs. 60 million, initiated a modern cancer center at a cost of Kshs. 1.6 billion, and a Meru Town sewerage system at a cost of Kshs. 1 billion. Kiraitu has negotiated a Majengo and Mjini upgrade with World Bank at a cost of Kshs. 300 million using Dou Nou road making technology from Japan
